Tenrai Museum at Mochizuki 305-2, Saku City, Nagano Prefecture (telephone 0267-53-4158) opened in 1975 as Japan's first calligraphy-specialty art museum registered under the Museum Act, honoring calligrapher Hidai Tenrai (1872-1939). Official pages list hours from 9:00 to 17:00. Admission is 310 yen for adults, 260 yen for college students, and 150 yen for elementary and junior-high students, with group discounts for 20 or more. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (the following day when those fall on holidays), and from 29 December to 3 January. Confirm exhibitions and temporary closures before travel.
