Kawamura Art Museum

河村美術館

Kawamura Art Museum in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, opened in October 1990 as the first foundation museum authorized by Saga Prefecture, later becoming a public-interest foundation in April 2014. According to the museum, it began with fifteen works by Aoki Shigeru left by the founder’s grandfather and now shows about twenty works from early to late periods, calling itself a place to encounter Aoki. Four galleries also present Meiji-era painters active alongside Aoki, East Asian ceramics, and Western art including the beer-stein Kawamura Collection.
