Karatsu Shrine in Saga Prefecture traces its origin to an offering of a sacred mirror on the Matsuura shore after Empress Jingu prayed to the Sumiyoshi deities, and later received the title Karatsu Daimyojin. Official pages note enshrinement of the three Sumiyoshi deities and lord Koda Munetsugu, castle-town patronage from the Terasawa era onward, the present site at Minamijo-nai, and the annual festival on 3 November known as Karatsu Kunchi.
