Located in Kyoto, Daishōgun Hachi Shrine was established in 794 during the relocation of the capital to Heian-kyo. Following an imperial decree by Emperor Kanmu, the deity was invited from the foot of Mount Kagu in Nara to the northwest corner of the Imperial Palace. The shrine is associated with prayers for national protection and the prosperity of the people.
