Hiyoshi Taisha

Hiyoshi Taisha is the Sanno head shrine at the foot of Mount Hiei, with about 3800 related Hiyoshi, Hie, and Sanno shrines nationwide. The official site notes roughly 2100 years of enshrinement, two National Treasure buildings, 17 Important Cultural Property buildings, and grounds of about 468000 square meters largely designated as a national historic site. Visitors can check festivals such as Mitarashi-sai and prayer services before worship in Otsu.
