Koishikawa Kōrakuen Garden

小石川後楽園

Koishikawa Korakuen near Tokyo Dome is a celebrated early-Edo stroll garden of the Mito Tokugawa family. Work began in 1629 under Yorifusa and was completed in the time of Mitsukuni, often remembered as Mito Komon. The layout centers on a pond and hills and includes Chinese-inspired features such as a miniature West Lake scene and the Full Moon Bridge. The name Korakuen comes from a classical phrase about those in power first attending to duty and only later enjoying ease. Designated both a special historic site and a special place of scenic beauty, it usually opens from nine to five with last entry at four-thirty; confirm fees, closed days, and guided walks on the official park pages.
