Higashitateyama Alpine Botanical Garden sits near the forest limit at about 2000 m on the Shiga Kogen Golden Line summit area in Yamanouchi Town, Nagano Prefecture. Official pages describe roughly 100000 square meters of alpine plantings with more than 500 native highland species, including large Nikko kisuge meadows in early summer. Summer Golden Line service is scheduled from 20 June to 1 November 2026, roughly 9:00 to 15:50, with maintenance suspension of two gondolas from 7 to 11 September while the Higashitateyama gondola continues.
