Hirosuke Hamada Memorial Hall in Takahata honors Yamagata fairy-tale writer Hirosuke Hamada, often called Japan’s Andersen. Official pages say he wrote about 1,000 stories and songs over more than fifty years—including The Crying Red Ogre and The Dragon’s Tears—and that the museum opened in Heisei 1 in his hometown to pass on that legacy.
