Chihitsudo Bunko in Kawanishi opened on 15 August 1987 with books donated by writer Hisashi Inoue and now holds about 220000 items, including language dictionaries, Edo literature, Chushingura, and Miyazawa Kenji materials. Hours are 9:30–19:00 Tuesday–Saturday (9:30–18:00 in winter) and 9:30–17:00 on Sundays and holidays. Closed Mondays (open if Monday is a holiday), the day after holidays, and 29 December through 4 January. Confirm hours before you visit.
