The Kyoto Japanese Folk Dolls Museum (Museum Sagano Ningyo no Ie) holds a traditional Japanese doll collection spanning the early Edo period to the early Showa era. Official materials say dolls developed around scenic Sagano are among the most lavish and artistically refined in Japanese doll-making history. Unlike ordinary toys, Sagano dolls were made as high-end art and presented as gifts to the imperial family, nobles, and wealthy merchants.
