Tsunami Memorial Hall on Okushiri Island commemorates the 12 July 1993 Hokkaido Nansei-oki earthquake and tsunami that left 198 people dead or missing. Official town pages say the museum opened in 2001 with seven theme exhibit areas and an English-subtitled disaster film. Seasonal opening for 2026 runs 18 April through 31 October, 9:00–17:00, with Monday closures except in July and August and on national holidays. Adult admission is 660 yen (220 yen for elementary through high-school students). Confirm the season before you visit.
