Located in Kyoto Prefecture, the Yamashina Botanical Research Institute is a garden that houses various plant specimens. The facility's botanical specimens were featured in the NHK television drama "Ranman." This series was based on the life of botanist Makino Tomitaro, who named numerous plants. Following the broadcast, events were held at botanical gardens across Japan to introduce both Makino Tomitaro and the many plant species he identified.
