Japan Kaleidoscope Museum is the personal museum of collector Shinichi Okuma. Official pages explain that kaleidoscopes were invented in 1816 by Scottish physicist David Brewster, that the museum opened in 1998 in Shibuya before relocating to Kawaguchi in September 2012, and that visitors can view about 3,100 kaleidoscopes, learn their history and mechanisms, and make one from an original kit under a reservation-first system.
