Ishinomaki City Museum opened on 3 November 2021 as the successor to Ishinomaki Cultural Center, which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake and demolished in 2013. Official about pages say its concept is a city nurtured by a great river and the sea, continuing the former center’s “great river and maritime routes” theme through history, folklore, archaeology, and art collections.
