Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is an urban park created to mourn atomic bomb victims and to pray for lasting peace. It occupies the delta where the Motoyasu River branches from the old Ota River, on ground that was once a busy city center before the bombing of 6 August 1945. After the Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Law, the area was rebuilt from 1950 and completed around 1955 as a place of remembrance. Visitors find the Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Museum, many monuments, and survivor trees such as a-bombed aogiri within a free, always-open park landscape. Move quietly and allow time to walk between memorials rather than treating the site as entertainment. Pair museum hours carefully if you want indoor exhibits with the outdoor park circuit.
