Oshu Space and Astronomy Museum opened in April 2008 in a reconstructed Taisho-era building that once housed Japan’s first international latitude observatory main hall from 1921. Official pages describe a rare German-style wooden building with a lookout tower used until 1967, preserved after Miyazawa Kenji Society visitors and a civic movement urged saving the site linked to Kenji’s works.
