Waseda International House of Literature

The Waseda International House of Literature, known as the Haruki Murakami Library, opened in October 2021 on Waseda Campus Building 4 after a major renovation led by architect Kengo Kuma. It grew from materials donated and deposited by Murakami and functions as a new kind of library for world literature and translation studies, open to researchers and general readers. Beyond stacks and exhibitions, the house hosts talks, readings, performances, and seminars meant to keep literary and cultural exchange lively. Admission is free; hours are generally ten to five with Wednesday and other designated closures, and groups of twenty-one or more need advance booking, so check the official visitor calendar before you go.
