Ōkunitama Shrine

大國魂神社

Okunitama Shrine in Fuchu is a long-standing guardian shrine of Musashi Province. Its principal deity, Okunitama-no-Okami, is identified with Okuninushi and is known for blessings of livelihood, good fortune, matchmaking, and warding off misfortune. After the Taika Reform the Musashi provincial office stood here, and the shrine served as the provincial soja where officials oversaw rites; six famous local deities were later enshrined beside the main hall, giving the historic name Rokushogu. Tokugawa Ieyasu also supported the precinct after entering Edo. Visitors should confirm gate hours, prayer times, and festival notices on the official site before a visit, especially around major rites such as the summer plum festival and the famous Kurayami Festival.
