Located in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, Nonomiya Shrine is associated with the Tale of Genji. The site features a black wood torii gate made from unpeeled oak bark, which is described as the oldest style of torii in Japan. These gates are also used to surround the area for the Daijosai ceremony held for the enthronement of the Emperor. Additionally, the shrine grounds include small fences constructed from Japanese wood.
