Hiroshima Castle is a classic flatland castle founded by Mori Terumoto on a delta of the Ota River. The keep closed in March 2026 for safety because of aging concrete and facilities, so travelers should not plan an interior keep visit right now. Exterior viewing of the castle profile remains possible, and the restored Ninomaru buildings, museum shop, and Sannomaru area continue to welcome visitors with free Ninomaru entry during published hours. Seasonal events, boat schedules, and light-up notices still animate the castle grounds, making the site useful for history walks and photography around the park. Check the official calendar before you go, especially for Ninomaru hours that change by season. Come for castle-town context and open precinct spaces while the keep itself remains closed.
