Shikina-en

識名園

Shikina-en in Naha was the largest detached villa garden of the Ryukyu royal family, used for royal recreation and for receiving Chinese investiture envoys. Official city pages note that the garden was created in 1799 and hosted envoys in 1800; because it lies south of Shuri Castle it was also called Nan-en. The layout is a pond-centered stroll garden that combines Chinese and Ryukyuan landscape ideas. Storm warnings close the site, so confirm open status and hours with the garden office before visiting after typhoon alerts.
