Hōraisan Tōshō-gū

鳳来山東照宮

Horaisan Toshogu in Shinshiro, Aichi Prefecture, stands among centuries-old cedars on Mount Horaiji as a Tokugawa Ieyasu shrine with Important Cultural Property status for its sanctuary. Tradition says the third shogun Iemitsu ordered its construction after learning that Ieyasu’s parents prayed at Horaiji for an heir, and the shrine was completed in 1651. The mountain itself has long been regarded as a sacred site of Okumikawa, so the visit combines Tokugawa heritage with forested temple-mountain atmosphere.
