Kayano Shigeru Nibutani Ainu Museum

萱野茂二風谷アイヌ資料館

Kayano Shigeru Nibutani Ainu Museum displays Ainu folk tools collected by Shigeru Kayano, along with ethnographic items from peoples he met around the world. Official materials say 1,121 pieces in the Hokkaido Nibutani and surrounding Ainu daily-life tools collection are designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties. Kayano also began recording Ainu-language audio in the 1960s with equipment he purchased himself, and the museum presents those linguistic resources.
