Kishū Tōshō-gū

紀州東照宮

Located in Wakayama City, Kishū Tōshō-gū is a Shinto shrine associated with the Tokugawa clan and designated as an Important Cultural Property. The main hall sits atop 108 stone steps known as Samizaka. It features elaborate carvings and paintings from both the Kano and Tosa schools. Known for its grandeur, the site is often referred to as Kansai Nikko. The Sakura Gate is noted for its vibrant multi-colored vermilion paint.
