The Japon Louvre Sculpture Museum in Mie Prefecture presents carefully cast replicas of major Louvre sculptures, made from molds taken directly from the original works that normally never leave Paris. According to the museum, Louvre technicians completed these casts so the sister museum could show pieces such as the Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Apollo Belvedere with a level of detail matching the originals. Visitors come to appreciate classical sculpture up close in Japan rather than through photographs alone.
