The National Museum of Art, Osaka focuses on domestic and international modern art since 1945 and holds one of Japan’s largest collections of about 8,300 works. Official introduction materials say the museum preserves, exhibits, researches, and educates around those works; it opened in 1977 using Expo ’70 facilities and relocated to a new building in Nakanoshima in 2004, with an exterior designed to evoke resilient bamboo growth.
