Located in the upper reaches of the Shibaki River in Akiota-cho, Hiroshima Prefecture, Sandankyo Gorge is a historic gorge designated as a special place of scenic beauty in 1953. The gorge spans 16 km and features notable sites such as Kurobuchi Pool, which is surrounded by a 100-meter-high cliff, and Sarutobi Rock, named for monkeys that once jumped between the cliffs.
