名古屋城

Nagoya Castle was built by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1615 as a strategic center of the Owari Domain. Its great keep was crowned by golden shachihoko roof ornaments, while the richly decorated Honmaru Palace served as the domain lord’s residence and government center. Much of the complex was destroyed in 1945, but the palace has been reconstructed and the grounds are designated a Special Historic Site.
