Eikan-do Zenrinji

Buddhist temples

永観堂

Eikan-do, formally Zenrin-ji, is a Jodo Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto and the head temple of the Seizan Zenrin-ji branch. It is especially known for the Mikaeri Amida, a statue of Amida Buddha turning to look back over his shoulder. Temple halls, a hillside pagoda, gardens, and maple trees create a layered setting that is particularly noted for autumn color.
