Hatoyama Hall in Otowa is the former residence of Hatoyama Ichiro, later Japan’s 52nd to 54th prime minister, built in 1924 and designed by architect Okada Shinichiro. The reinforced-concrete Western house is noted for Adam-style reception rooms, an English-inspired exterior, and rare stained glass by Ogawa Sanichi with dove motifs. Official history pages note that postwar political planning, including founding moves of the Liberal Party and groundwork for Japan-Soviet relations, unfolded here. A major 1995 restoration revived the building and opened memorial rooms; the English-style garden is also known for its roses.
