Onbashira

御柱祭

Onbashira refers to the Onbashira Festival, the Shikinen Zoei Onbashira Taisai of Suwa Taisha held once every seven years in the Years of the Tiger and Monkey. Official festival pages describe rebuilding the treasure halls, selecting sacred pillars, dragging them from the mountains, and raising them in the shrine precincts as Suwa Taisha's largest rite, continued for more than 1200 years by parishioners across six Suwa municipalities.
