Japan Coast Guard Museum was built in 1980 on the Japan Coast Guard Academy grounds in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, as part of the Japan Coast Guard's 30th anniversary projects to preserve the agency's record. Nearly 1,000 exhibits included photographs of retired patrol vessels, aircraft, and helicopters; models of helicopter-capable patrol ships; and panels introducing Japan Coast Guard work. It also displayed the bridge front of the patrol vessel Amami, damaged by gunfire in the December 2001 Kyushu Southwest Sea Suspicious Ship Incident. The museum closed from 1 April 2026.
