Kokubunji Historical Park

国分寺史跡公園

Kokubunji Historical Park in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, is about 5.5 hectares of landscaped ruins of the Nara-period Shinano provincial temple complex. Official city pages state the remains of the monks' and nuns' temples were backfilled and presented with restored platforms so visitors can walk the sites of the golden hall, lecture hall, and middle gate. The adjacent Shinano Kokubunji Museum at Kokubu 1125 (telephone 0268-27-8706) provides related archaeological exhibits. Confirm park and museum notices before travel.
