水戸東照宮

Mito Tōshō-gū stands at Miyamachi 2-5-13 in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, telephone 029-221-3784. Official pages record founding on 21 April 1621 when first Mito lord Tokugawa Yorifusa enshrined Tokugawa Ieyasu here; Yorifusa was later enshrined in 1936. Wartime air raids destroyed the shrine buildings on 2 August 1945, and reconstruction finished on 2 July 1962. Gates open from 6:00 to 17:00, with shrine office reception from 8:30 to 17:00. Access is about a five-minute walk from JR Mito Station north exit. Confirm prayer bookings and parking before travel.
