Ōta Shrine

大田神社

Ōta Shrine is a sessha of Kamigamo Shrine about 800 meters east of the main precinct. Official pages list it as an Engishiki-era ancient shrine, also called Ontasha, and the oldest shrine in the Kamo area—older than Kamigamo. It enshrines Amenouzume-no-Mikoto for performing-arts skill and longevity. Festivals fall on 10 April and 10 November, with monthly rites on the 10th featuring satokagura (Chanpon Kagura), a Kyoto City registered intangible folk cultural property. Mid-May kakitsubata irises fill Ota-no-sawa, designated a Natural Monument in 1939. Confirm current rites before you visit.
