Hokuto Site

北斗遺跡

Hokuto Site is a nationally designated historic site overlooking Kushiro Marsh, with occupation from the Paleolithic through the Satsumon period. Official city pages record 102 circular or oval Jomon/Epi-Jomon pit houses and 232 rectangular Satsumon pit houses, with 233471 square meters on the east side designated in July 1977. The visitor square is open 16 April through 15 November, 10:00–16:00, closed Mondays (open if Monday is a holiday) and closed from 16 November through 15 April. Admission is free. Confirm the seasonal opening before you visit.
