Fukuoka Castle was built in the early seventeenth century by Kuroda Nagamasa and became the center of the Fukuoka Domain. The surviving stone walls, gates, and foundations extend across a hill in present-day Maizuru Park. The national historic site offers views over central Fukuoka and is also known for seasonal plantings, including extensive cherry blossoms.
